The brief

Isleworth Bakery is exactly what it sounds like: a small, family-run bakery on a high street that's been there for years. The brief was simple but specific. They wanted (1) a fast, modern site that worked on a phone in seconds, (2) an online ordering system for their loyal locals to pre-order weekend bakes, (3) proper Google visibility - they'd been hidden in 'page 2' results for years, and (4) it all done within a fortnight on a tight budget. No agency-style discovery sessions, no Slack channels, no monthly retainers. Just the work.

Approach

How it was built.

    Custom one-page design - no template, no Squarespace. Hand-built in Astro with Tailwind, written from scratch in roughly 3 days.

    Copy written by walking the bakery, talking to the owners, and reading every Google review they had. The voice on the site is theirs, not mine.

    Photography: I took new photos of the loaves, the shopfront, and the team. Real lighting, real product. No stock images.

    SEO setup: hand-written meta tags, schema markup (LocalBusiness, Bakery, Menu), Google Business Profile created and verified, sitemap submitted to Search Console.

    Online ordering: simple form-based pre-order flow that emails the bakery directly. No platform fees, no commission cuts, no learning curve.

    Performance budget: <100kb total page weight, no third-party scripts, Lighthouse 98+ across the board.

Outcome

Live the morning of day 7. Indexed by Google by Tuesday. The bakery's first organic Google search appearance happened on day 9 - a customer in nearby Hounslow found them by searching 'sourdough Isleworth' and walked in for a loaf the same afternoon. Within the first month: a measurable lift in pre-orders for weekend bakes, top-3 ranking on Google for several local bakery queries, and the kind of visual brand presence that matches what their shop has always been in person.
